05/03/2010 - Book Launch at Brussels’ offices

Extending the analogy at the launch of The Silk Road to the Top, Mirella commented on the silk trade route which connected the East and the West bringing prosperity to both areas, just as senior level participation by women in business enhances their successful management.

The book, one of only 6 nominees for the Management Book of the Year 2010 in The Netherlands, takes the metaphor of the ancient silk road to explain how women arrive at the top of organisations. “Women no longer reach the top by copying the behaviours of pin-stripe suits and climbing the hierarchical pyramidal structures, but by creating new opportunities, career paths and connections in their own right and within their own power” said the author.

Based on her senior management experience at ING in Asia, Mirella proposed strategies to strengthen women’s leadership potential. At Blueprint, Mirella Visser spoke about how to create opportunities and business environments conducive to success. As a Co-founder and Board Member of several executive women’s organisations, she emphasised that to change society first women have to occupy positions where they can transform business models from the inside.

The event attracted an audience of more than 50 people including business people, journalists, and representatives from the European institutions.
